Is a 98" TV worth it? Room checklist before you buy (MD/VA delivery)
A 98-inch TV can be spectacular — or overwhelming — depending on the room. Before you buy in Maryland or Virginia, run this checklist. Then see the size lit at a showroom; photos never match sitting 9–12 feet from a real panel.
Room checklist
- Viewing distance. Rough guide: many people sit about 8–12+ feet from a 98". Closer seats can feel huge (great for movies; fatiguing for some daytime TV).
- Wall or stand width. Measure the clear width and height. Leave margin for the bezel, soundbar, and cables.
- Doorways and stairs. Confirm the boxed TV can enter. White-glove teams in our service area plan the path; still measure first.
- Light. Bright rooms with windows may favor Neo QLED / high-brightness sets; dark theaters may favor OLED contrast. Compare both in store.
- Mount vs furniture. Low furniture can make 98" feel towering. A proper mount height matters as much as the diagonal.
- Audio. Built-in speakers struggle at this scale. Plan a soundbar or more — hear options in showroom.
- Budget beyond the panel. Mount, cable management, sound, and delivery/setup are part of the real total.
Is 98" “worth it”?
It is worth it when the room has the distance and width to support cinema-scale sports and movies, and you have a delivery plan. It is not worth it if the sofa sits 6 feet away, the wall is narrow, or entry access is unrealistic. There is no shame in choosing 85" or 75" after a side-by-side look.
