The Best TV for a Bright Room

The Best TV for a Bright Room

There's nothing more annoying than sitting down on Sunday afternoon to watch a football game and realizing that all you can see is the glare from the sun coming through your windows. You could purchase shades or blinds, but who really wants to sit in the dark anyway?

Before you purchase a new TV, make sure you take the environment into consideration. The right technology makes a real difference in a bright room — here's what to look for in 2026.

Glare Free technology: the biggest bright-room upgrade in years

Samsung's Glare Free coating — a matte, anti-reflective screen treatment — has become the single most important spec for bright-room shoppers. It used to be reserved for flagship models only; now it's spread across the lineup. The Samsung S90H now includes Glare Free, making it our top recommendation for living rooms with lots of windows. If you want the absolute best bright-room performance available, the flagship S95H pairs Glare Free with up to 35% more brightness than last year's model.

Neo QLED and Micro RGB: brightness built for sunlight

If raw brightness is your top priority — especially at larger sizes — Samsung's Neo QLED and Micro RGB lineups are built for exactly this. Both use Mini-LED style backlighting that can push far higher peak brightness than any OLED panel, cutting straight through competing sunlight. Samsung's Micro RGB TVs — the R85H and R95H — are the newest and brightest option in this category, and available exclusively at The Big Screen Store in the Maryland and DC market.

Testing glare and brightness before you buy

If possible, find a local retailer that has TVs set up side-by-side for easy comparison — in a room with real lighting, not a darkened showroom. If the TVs are set up in a dark area, ask the sales associate to turn the lights on. If they can't or won't, go to another store to shop. Next, ask the sales associate to turn the TVs off, since it's easiest to see how a screen reflects when there isn't an image on it. Now you should be able to get a real sense of how each screen handles reflections and glare.
