Samsung R95H vs R85H: Which Micro RGB TV Should You Buy?

Samsung R95H vs R85H: Which Micro RGB TV Should You Buy?

Samsung's 2026 Micro RGB lineup gives you two paths into the best LCD picture quality ever made. The R95H is the flagship. The R85H is the more accessible entry point. Both use the same fundamental Micro RGB technology — individual red, green, and blue LEDs instead of a white backlight — and both deliver 100% BT.2020 color coverage that no QLED or Neo QLED TV can match.

But they're not the same TV. Here's exactly what separates them and how to decide which one is right for you.

The Short Answer

  • Choose the R95H if you want Samsung's absolute best, you're mounting it in a bright room, or you want the cleanest possible wall installation
  • Choose the R85H if you want Micro RGB picture quality at a lower price, or if you need a 55", 100" size that the R95H doesn't offer

Where They're the Same

Don't let the price difference fool you — on the fundamentals that matter most for picture quality, the R95H and R85H are remarkably similar:

Micro RGB backlighting. Both TVs use the same core technology — individual red, green, and blue LEDs packed behind a VA LCD panel. This is what separates both models from every Neo QLED, QLED, and traditional LED TV on the market. The color accuracy advantage of Micro RGB applies to both.

100% BT.2020 color. Both the R95H and R85H cover the full BT.2020 color gamut — a standard that even today's best OLED TVs don't fully reach. If color accuracy matters to you, both TVs deliver it.

Micro RGB AI Engine Pro. Both use Samsung's new dedicated processor designed specifically for Micro RGB backlighting — enabling precise per-zone dimming, color calibration, and AI-driven picture optimization.

Vision AI Companion. Both TVs include Samsung's new AI assistant with contextual content recommendations, Live Translate, Generative Wallpaper, and integration with Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity.

Eclipsa Audio. Both support Samsung's new spatial audio format, Dolby Atmos, and Q-Symphony for pairing with Samsung soundbars.

4K Smart TV with Tizen OS 10. Both run Samsung's latest operating system with a commitment to 7 years of software updates.

Where They're Different

Glare Free coating. This is the biggest real-world difference for most buyers. The R95H has the same anti-reflection Glare Free coating found on Samsung's flagship OLED TVs. If your living room gets direct sunlight or has bright overhead lighting, this makes a meaningful difference in how the picture looks during the day. The R85H does not have Glare Free.

HDR10+ Advanced. The R95H supports Samsung's newest HDR format — HDR10+ Advanced — which offers improved brightness mapping, genre-specific optimization, and more precise local tone mapping compared to standard HDR10+. The R85H supports HDR10+ but not the Advanced version.

Wireless One Connect. The R95H is Wireless One Connect Ready, meaning you can use an optional external connection box to route all your cables to a separate location — a huge advantage for clean wall installations. The R85H has all ports built into the TV itself.

Zero Gap Wall Mount. The R95H comes with a new Layered Wall mount option designed to sit flush against the wall with virtually no gap. This is a premium installation feature that makes the TV look built-in. Not available on the R85H.

Refresh rate. The R95H tops out at 165Hz while the R85H runs at 144Hz — both excellent for gaming, but the R95H has a slight edge for the most demanding gaming setups.

Sizes. The R95H comes in 65", 75", and 85". The R85H adds 55" at the bottom and 100" at the top — so if you need either extreme, the R85H is your only Micro RGB option.

Which Should You Buy?

Buy the R95H if:

  • Your room gets a lot of natural light (Glare Free coating is worth it)
  • You want the cleanest possible wall installation (Zero Gap Mount, One Connect)
  • You want Samsung's absolute best processing and HDR support
  • You're buying the 65", 75", or 85" size

Buy the R85H if:

  • You want Micro RGB picture quality at a lower entry price
  • You need 55" or 100" — sizes the R95H doesn't come in
  • Your room is well-controlled for light and Glare Free isn't a priority
  • Budget is the primary consideration between the two

The honest truth: If you can afford the R95H, get it. The Glare Free coating alone is worth the premium for most living rooms. But the R85H is not a consolation prize — it's a genuinely excellent TV that beats everything in the Neo QLED lineup it replaces, and it starts at $1,599.99.
